Four individuals receive powers beyond their wildest dreams when they come into contact with "The First Metal": each is granted a unique set of powers that match the Biblical prophecy of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and thus charged, they possess the capacity for unparalleled good or unspeakable evil. When a wealthy religious zealot recruits the four and uses their newfound abilities to complete what appear to be rescue and recovery missions, the four believe they maintain peace throughout the world.

In reality, the Horseman are being used to realize an ancient prophecy, a cleansing of the world's evil and thus an ushering in of a new Eden.
